In January 1994, Farrar referred to as supervisor Tony Margherita to inform him of his resolution to leave the band. Uncle Tupelo split on Could 1, 1994, after completing a farewell tour. Uncle Tupelo recorded demo tracks in the attic studio of future Chicago punk producer Matt Allison in Champaign, Illinois. Wade Farrar was the lead singer of the band, but his commitment to Southern Illinois University and an attempted enlistment in the United States Military meant he was solely able to dedicate a small amount of time to the group.
